Which Subject Tuition for CA Final: A Strategic Guide for Your November 19 Attempt

Thank you for reaching out with your query. When I began my CA final preparation in March 2017, I faced a similar challenge. Fortunately, with a solid strategy and the right approach, I was able to clear my CA final in my first attempt. Given the upcoming November 19 attempt, you have several strategic options to consider for your preparation.

Practical Subjects as a Foundation

For those starting their CA final journey, it's advisable to begin with practical subjects. For instance, if you are from a vernacular medium where theory subjects might be more challenging, starting with subjects like Financial Reporting (FR) and Costing could be beneficial. These subjects help in building a strong foundation and making theory subjects easier to tackle later on.

Here are some reasons to start with practical subjects:

Practical concepts are easier to retain in long-term memory. Completing practical subjects first will make you more comfortable with the core concepts, making it easier to handle theory subjects. Practical subjects like Financial Reporting (FR), SFM, and Taxes will be useful throughout your articleship.

Choosing Your First Practical Subject

When picking your first practical subject, consider what interests you most. I personally recommend starting with Management Accounting Foundations (MAFA). MAFA introduces you to a new and interesting set of concepts. Alternatively, you could start with Costing or Accounts Mafa as these subjects will have a strong connection to the basics you studied during the IPCC (Indian Chartered Association of Statisticians - President) program.

Group 2

Paper 5: Strategic Cost Management and Performance Evaluation (SCMPE/Costing) Paper 6: Elective (Optional; choose 6A to 6F - any one subject of your choice with an open-book exam) 6A: Risk Management 6B: Financial Services and Capital Markets 6C: International Taxation 6D: Economic Laws (same as CEL) 6E: Global Financial Reporting Standards 6F: Multidisciplinary Case Study Paper 7: Direct Tax Laws and International Taxation (DT) Paper 8: Indirect Tax Laws and GST (IDT/GST)

Starting Your Preparation Early

It is highly recommended to start your preparation now if you aim to attempt the November 19 exam. Even though some theory subjects might be better to study closer to the exam, having a solid foundation in practical subjects will significantly enhance your overall preparation.

My Suggestion for a Practical Start

Beginning with the practical subjects not only provides a strong foundation but also helps in building a better understanding of theoretical concepts. For instance, starting with Financial Reporting (FR) or Management Accounting Foundations (MAFA) can offer a smoother transition to other subjects.
