Understanding Salary Expectations for ECE Graduates from UVCE

UVCE, University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering, has consistently delivered a robust ecosystem for electronics and communication engineering (ECE) graduates. During my tenure at the Placement Office from 2014-15, the 2014-15 batch received an impressive 900 offers for around 600 students at the KR Circle campus. This article aims to delve into the typical salary expectations and the factors that influence them for ECE graduates from UVCE.

Typical Salary Offerings

The table below highlights some of the offers received in the 2014-15 batch:

Offering Company Salary Package (in LPA) Commvault 14 LPA BPCL 12 LPA Tejas Networks 5.5 LPA Nokia 5.5 LPA MuSigma 18 lakh over 3 years Rakuten Around 30 LPA Royal Enfield 5 LPA A Marine Shipping Company 24 LPA Visa 6 LPA for B. Tech and in excess of 9 LPA for M. Tech

During that time, around 110 companies were involved in both on-campus and pool-campus recruitment.

Average Package Considerations

On an average, 50 students received two offers: one from a mass recruiter and the other from a core company. A mass recruiter typically offers a package around 3 LPA, while the package from a core company varies based on the branch. For instance, computer science (CS) graduates often receive the highest packages.

The average package for core branch students tends to be around 4 LPA. It's important to note that some companies inflate their conversion total cost (CTC) to appear more attractive. The actual monthly salary could be around 50,000 rupees after adding benefits to the CTC. Conversely, some companies offer as high as 6.5 LPA, ensuring a strong monthly income.

Hence, while the average package can provide a starting point, it's crucial to consider the job profile and the company's reputation. A job profile that aligns with one's career aspirations and growth prospects is more important than the mere average package value.

Historical Context

It's noteworthy that the salary packages in UVCE have varied significantly in the past. In 2005, the lowest package offered was just 1.8 LPA, while the highest was around 6 LPA. The structure of salary packages during 2015 at UVCE was as follows:

IT Mass Company (Accenture, Cognizant, Wipro, etc.): Approximately 3.5 LPA IT Dream Company (MuSigma, etc.): Around 7-8 LPA Core Company (CoreEL, etc.): Approximately 3.75 LPA Core Dream Company (Texas Instruments): Around 13 LPA

For the sake of numbers, one can add around 20-30 more to the indicated amounts for dream companies. This structure provides a clear picture of the salary expectations, but actual figures may vary based on the specific company and the industry.

Final Thoughts

Overall, there is no definitive 'average package' for ECE graduates from UVCE. The package depends on the company, the industry, and the individual's performance. More than the package, the job profile and the company's reputation play a crucial role in shaping a successful career post-graduation.

Getting placed is just the beginning of a journey. As a fresh graduate, you will face numerous challenges and opportunities. Embrace these challenges and work hard to achieve your goals. Best of luck!
