The Debate on Boarding Schools: Should All Children Attend?
When it comes to the question of whether all children should attend boarding schools, the answer is no. While supporters of boarding schools might claim otherwise, there is no substantial research indicating that a boarding school environment unequivocally fosters greater individual development over that of a regular school environment.
Individual Differences Matter
It's important to recognize that the suitability of a boarding school experience varies greatly depending on the individual child. For instance, my younger brother, now in his first year of high school at a boarding school, is thriving in this environment and enjoys it so much that he had dreamed of attending such a school since his middle school days. Neither he nor his family regrets his choice, but this does not mean it would be the best fit for every child.
Personal Experiences and Financial Considerations
My own daughter started at a boarding school when she was 16 and has found the experience challenging yet overall positive. We manage to afford it by not spending money on expensive meals and foreign holidays. While this was a difficult decision for me, I believe that the investment in her education is significantly more important. She is exceptionally talented, securing a scholarship, and the ￡7,000 annual fee is well worth it for her educational opportunities.
