Should You Focus on One Competitive Exam or Prepare for Multiple Ones?
Indeed, focusing on one significant objective is key to success in competitive exams. It does not mean that you should only concentrate on one major area in life; the world is full of individuals who manage to handle multiple tasks effectively and successfully. However, the decision to prepare for multiple exams or to focus on just one should align with your personal capabilities and goals. In this article, I will detail the considerations that you should take into account.
Know Your Self
Before making any hasty decisions, it is important to perform a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis. This will help you understand your current skill level, the time required for the exam preparation, and your available time. Is it feasible for you to clear the competitive exam through multi-tasking? What is your aptitude level? How much time does the exam preparation need? Do you have the time to spare?
Example: If your goal is higher education, you could potentially prepare for both the GMAT and CAT simultaneously. While these exams are different, they are both measures of aptitude for B-school entrance. However, if your target is to set up a bakery and prepare for the UPSC, you would need to give it more thought. Not all goals align with one another, and some have very different requirements.
Time Management
Personally, I found that during my CA preparation, it was not effective to segregate topics. I would only study one subject at a time. If you can manage to focus on multiple subjects simultaneously, then by all means, go for it. Many of my friends recommend studying both theory and practicals concurrently, which can be a beneficial approach. However, if you find it challenging to concentrate on different tasks, it is best to simplify your approach and avoid overcomplicating your routine.
Strategy: Preparation Practice Confidence
In Conclusion
If it is a significant goal, avoid distractions and give it your all. If you think you can handle more, challenge yourself. All the best!
Personal Perspective: At present, I would advise you to focus on your main exam. Stay focused and don't let other exams distract you. Maintain a positive outlook and keep your morale high toward your ultimate goal.
