SSC CGL 2018 Exam: The toughest Shifts and Candidate Experiences
The Indian Central Government's Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Competitive Graduate Level (CGL) examination of 2018 saw several shifts with varying levels of difficulty. Among these, the first shift of Tier I on March 5, 2018, was widely considered to be the most challenging. Candidates reported that the Quantitative Aptitude (QA) section posed the most significant hurdles, with complex and intricate questions. The Reasoning and English Language sections, while not as strenuous, were also reported to be moderately difficult.
Despite the first shift setting a high benchmark for difficulty, subsequent shifts also had their distinct challenges. According to one candidate, the July 4, 2018, second shift was particularly demanding. This candidate mentioned that they could only attempt 70 questions, with the GK (General Knowledge) and reasoning sections being notably tough. The GK questions were described as surpassing the expectations set by YouTubers, constituting an additional layer of difficulty. Moreover, many candidates found the July 4 shift to be even more challenging than the SSC CGL 2018 exam itself.
Comparison of Shifts
To get a comprehensive understanding, multiple shifts were analyzed for their comparative difficulty. It was noted that the 10th June 2018, first shift was characterized by its calculated and conceptual difficulty, especially in the Mathematics section. These questions were not only computationally intensive but also conceptually demanding, particularly in advanced mathematics. The Arithmetic section was described as requiring a degree of analytical thinking before solving problems. In contrast, the General Knowledge (GS) section was relatively moderate, as it did not significantly consume time and candidates primarily focused on Mathematics and English Language, which make up a substantial portion of the SSC CGL exam.
Based on the answer key, the average marks achieved in the 10th June 2018, first shift were approximately 120 to 125. Despite the presence of challenging questions, many serious aspirants managed to score well, indicating the exam's ability to separate the more dedicated from the less committed.
Overall, the SSC CGL 2018 exam shifted, reflecting varying levels of difficulty. While certain shifts tested candidates' conceptual understanding and analytical thinking, others demanded quick and accurate problem-solving skills. These diverse challenges contributed to the competitive essence of the examination and helped in identifying strong contenders for government positions.
