Reflections on UGEE 2022 and JEE Adv Preparation

How Was My UGEE 2022 Experience?

The UGEE 2022, or University Group Exams, was a challenging experience that taught me how to deal with extreme conditions and appreciate my own worthiness despite the exam's demands. My preparation and performance were quite positive; I even finished the REAP (Research Aptitude and Problem Solving) section 5 minutes early! The exam felt a bit easier than previous years, and I was expecting to secure around 100 marks on the 150-point scale.

One of the colleges I was most interested in was IIIT H (Indian Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad). To my delight, the results were favorable, and I scored an impressive 97.5 out of 150. The cutoff for admission was 98/150. Reflecting on the scores, I recalled advice from my mentor, Jeetu Bhaiya, who once said, "Yahi mera Satya hai," which translates to 'This is my truth.' As I move on to prepare for the JEE Advanced, I hope for better results in the future.

In stark contrast to this positive turn of events, I barely qualified the level 1 with a score of 98.5, just crossing the cutoff of 98.0. However, during the interview round, I performed remarkably well and secured a rank of 35 overall.

The Exam Experience

June 4th was a day I will never forget. Initially, I thought there wouldn't be many candidates taking the exam due to low awareness. However, upon reaching the exam center, I was pleasantly surprised to see at least 10 of my batchmates, all of whom were there with the same mindset. The exam was scheduled to start at 2:00 PM, and I began with the SUPR (Subsidiary Problem Solving and Reasoning) section, which had straightforward questions like those found in JEE Mains. I confidently answered 48 out of 50 questions, even guessing the answers for the ones I was unsure about.

Next came the REAP section, which was highly crucial for my chances of selection. Despite the REAP section's resemblance to the sample paper provided by IITH, it was relatively simpler. I managed to attempt 49 out of 50 questions, feeling quite satisfied after the exam. Initially, I expected to exceed the cutoff, which was around 85-90 marks in previous years, and was aiming for 115-120 marks.

To my astonishment, the cutoff was announced as 98, and I scored a remarkable 111.5 marks. Regardless of the specific marks, I had successfully qualified for the interview round, which was scheduled for 7-8 July. It was initially unclear if the exam's difficulty had led to a higher cutoff compared to the previous year, but the hope for a successful interview is still alive.

Conclusion

Reflecting on these events, there's a bittersweet feeling. While I can appreciate the outcome of the UGEE 2022, the thought of what might have been different in the exam's last moments brings some regret. No one can predict the unseen, but it's essential to move forward with optimism and dedication towards the next challenge, the JEE Advanced.
