Reflections on UGEE 2021: A Comprehensive Experience
2021 was a unique experience for many, and the UGEE 2021 exam was no exception. After enduring months of lockdown and postponed exams, the UGEE was finally rescheduled for July 16th. This article delves into the examination experience, providing insights into the rigorous nature of the exam, key takeaways, and valuable preparation tips for those aiming to excel in future iterations of the UGEE.
Overview of the UGEE Exam in 2021
Entering the UGEE 2021 exam, I felt reasonably confident about the JEE-related questions. However, a lingering uncertainty piqued my concerns about the level of logical reasoning and linguistic questions that would be posed. This was despite thoroughly studying the question papers from 2019 and 2020. The format of the SUPR (Science, UP to Ranks) section seemed straightforward, with basic questions that did not require extensive calculations. However, the actual exam presented a different scenario. The SUPR section was much more challenging, involving extensive calculations and conceptual questions. Additionally, in most questions, there were five options to choose from.
Experience with the REAP Section
The REAP (Research and Analytical Problem Solving) section mirrored previous years in some aspects, but it demanded a higher level of critical thinking, coding-decoding, and complex linguistic questions. One particularly unique question involved a Persian-based linguistic query where no options were provided, requiring us to type in the complete answers. This change added a new level of challenge to the section.
Despite the extensive preparation, I made a significant number of silly mistakes in the SUPR section. My hopes were heavily invested in the REAP section, which had the potential to turn the outcome in my favor. To my relief, the REAP section indeed turned out to be my salvation. I managed to clear the cutoff marginally, and I felt a sense of accomplishment at the result.
Results and Outcome
I cleared the UGEE Exam with a score of 95.5 out of 150, which was just above the 85 marks cutoff for interview qualification. Reflecting on the experience, I acknowledge the innovative and well-designed nature of the paper, which truly tested whether one possesses the necessary research-based aptitude.
Concluding Thoughts and Preparation Tips
While the result may not have been as satisfactory as initially hoped, I can firmly say that this experience was an invaluable learning opportunity. For future aspirants, here are some key preparation tips:
Strengthen Basic Concepts: Revise and strengthen fundamental concepts in JEE, as these often form the foundation of the more complex questions in the SAPR section. Sharpen Logical Reasoning: Practice a wide range of logical reasoning and linguistic questions to build your confidence and speed in analyzing and solving new problems. Focus on REAP Section: Allocate significant time to the REAP section, as the high-level thinking and unique question formats demand extensive practice and clarity. While the exam can be daunting, gaining an understanding of its structure and practicing consistently can help reduce anxiety and improve performance. If you are planning to apply for a second round of suggestions, do not lose heart. Each individual’s journey is unique, and persistence and strategic preparation are key to success.
Thank you for reading, and best of luck to all future UGEE aspirants.
