Reflections on High School: Would I Change Anything and Why
High school, a period that can be both exciting and challenging, can shape one's future in many ways. In this journey, I reflect on my experiences and consider if there were any changes I would make if I could go back in time. Let's delve into the reasons and implications of such a hypothetical scenario.
Engagement and Social Connections
Would I Engage More in Activities and Form More Friendships?
Looking back, I would undoubtedly engage more in activities and socialize more. This change would have facilitated better social connections and experiences. Participation in extracurricular activities could have provided a platform to form meaningful relationships, enhancing both my social life and personal development. However, despite the potential benefits, the emotional scars from making friends easily, which have lingered until today, could not be altered. As such, I don't regret the choices I made, but recognize how these experiences have influenced my current life.
Challenges and Overcoming Obstacles
Financial and Academic Struggles
During my time at school, I faced financial difficulties, receiving a mere 50p per class to compensate for my attendance. This arrangement meant a weekly allowance of £5, but it was stolen by another student. The physical and social interactions were particularly challenging, as I struggled to make friends easily. These experiences shaped my later motivations and actions, as I sought to achieve personal success despite external setbacks. For instance, I aimed for physical and computational skills, which have contributed significantly to my personal and professional life.
Alternative Paths
Would I Suggest Joining Military Service or Pursuing a College Education?
Looking back, I would have advised joining the Army or military service and also encouraged pursuing a college education. Both paths are valuable and can provide structured opportunities for growth. Military service offers discipline, leadership training, and a sense of purpose, while college education opens doors to diverse career opportunities and intellectual exploration. However, these suggestions emphasize the importance of seeking structured environments and formal education, which may not have been options at the time.
Detrimental Experiences and Vow to Avoid Them
American High School: A Nightmare
The idea of returning to American High School, which I describe as a 'Hell-hole,' is almost unbearable. My experiences there were traumatic, and the social and emotional turmoil I endured has left a lasting impact. The prospect of revisiting these negative experiences is so distressing that I would either try to get expelled or hide until the day was over. My vow to never return to that school has been firm, especially given the negative experiences, which continue to influence my aversion to similar environments today. Thankfully, no one from that time period is worth risking a stay in jail, but this sentiment has remained strong.
Personal Growth and Future Planning
Would I Replicate My Schedule and Make Amends?
Reflecting on my past, I acknowledge the mistakes I made and understand the importance of planning my future more wisely. Financially, I would manage my time and resources more effectively, focusing on my studies and long-term goals. This approach would have led to a more structured and productive academic journey, allowing me to achieve personal and professional success earlier in life. By reevaluating my past decisions, I can make informed choices that benefit my future.
