Optimizing Your GATE Preparation for the Last 60 Days
By now, most of you may have completed a significant portion of your GATE syllabus if you are committed. Since I am writing this on December 13th, I will be focusing on the next 60 days which span from late December and throughout January. This period is crucial for finalizing your preparations, so let's dive into a detailed yet attainable plan.
DECEMBER
In the remaining 20 days of December, set a goal to take 5 to 6 more mock tests. It's crucial to analyze the mistakes made in each of these tests and take proper notes of them. Maintain a gap of 2 days between each mock test to allow for in-between revisions. This is also an excellent time to cover any minor topics that might still be pending. By the end of December, aim to have taken 8 to 9 mock tests, completed all remaining parts of your syllabus, and thoroughly revised it. You should be dedicating around 12 hours to your GATE preparation each day.
JANUARY
What to Do
Take at least 12 mock tests. Revise each subject comprehensively with subject-wise tests. Fill out various PSU (Public Sector Unit) recruitment forms. Solve previous GATE papers from previous years. Before taking a test, go through the short notes of all subjects carefully. After completing the test, take a break for 1 hour. Analyze your mistakes and address them. If you have time, complete PSU recruitment forms at the end of the day. Do not waste your energy on the day filling forms as you will already be too tired to study further.
The next day, start revising a subject of your choice. Go through your notes, previous year questions, important workbook questions, and take a test. Ensure that you don't overstrain yourself.
Keys to Effective Revision
Here are some crucial tips to refine your revision strategy:
You do not need to revise any derivations. You don't need to remember definitions word by word. Formulas must be revised. Questions that apply formulas must be revised. Tips on how and when to use formulas and probable silly mistakes must be revised. Important diagrams must be revised. Previous year questions must be solved at least once more. Some topics taught by your teacher are less crucial and can be skipped. If aiming for GATE only, do not revise ESE (Engineered Sustainable Excellence) topics. The more you revise, the more you remember, so there's no limit to the number of times you should revise. Start taking full-length tests, even if you feel unprepared. In summation, by strategically planning your remaining 60 days, you can significantly enhance your GATE preparation. Focusing on mock tests, subject-wise revision, and maintaining a regular schedule will help you perform at your best come test day.
