Navigating COMEDK Cutoffs and Allotments: Insights and Real-Life Experiences
Every year, the Consolidated Entrance Test for Medical, Engineering, Dental and Pharmacy Colleges (COMEDK) is a significant event for thousands of aspiring Indian students. The combination of competitive scores, college preferences, and seat allotments often leaves many candidates in a state of uncertainty and anticipation. In this article, we explore various experiences and insights shared by students who participated in the 2017 COMEDK round one seat allotment.
Personal Experience: Successful Allotment
In 2017, a student secured a remarkable rank of 2,500 and was allotted a seat in BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore for Civil Engineering. With a keen interest in Metallic and Materials Engineering, the student was initially disappointingly assigned to the 8th choice but remained optimistic. Here is what they had to say:
"I got civil engineering at BMS College of Engineering Bangalore in the round one seat allotment at the rank of 2500. For more updates, follow me on Quora. Thank you!!"
Complexities of Allotment
Competition in the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) track was especially intense in 2017. A student with a rank of 1,075 shared their experience, stating, "I secured a rank of 1,075 in COMEDK 2017 and was allotted CSE in Bangalore Institute of Technology my 8th preference. Was kinda disappointed at first coz I had expected at least MSRIT ISE." They further elaborated by sharing the complexities of the online counseling process and the potential for withdrawals by students securing good scores in other exams:
"However considering that this year counselling was done online and before JOSAA round 1 so almost anybody getting a good score even in JEE MIGHT have also secured a seat and could possibly withdraw after the 4th round of JOSAA 10th July. So fingers crossed. However, considering that this has remarkably been an year of surprises starting from low cut off in jee mains and upsurge of scores advanced to the NEET results. Hence be ready to face the worst and dont keep to much expectations. PREPARE FOR THE WORST, HOPE FOR THE BEST. All the Best!!!"
Optimism and Realization
Another student, with a rank of 626, shared their journey and met with a similar situation. Their initial expectations for the first round of counseling did not materialize:
"My son got a rank 626 in COMEDK. He thought he would get RV ECE in first round counselling. Before first round he put the options like these: 1RV CSE, 2RV ECE, 3BMS CSE, 4BMS ECE, 5RV Mech. In first mock allotment he got RV EEE changed option. In second mock allotment he got BMS ECE. In first round allotment he got RV Mech just missed BMS ECE. Now he is pretty sure that he will get BMS ECE as the cutoff rank for BMS ECE in first round is 607 and his decision was to accept and upgrade."
A student with a rank of 1,177 and a score of 142 was equally hopeful:
"Rank 1177. Expected: BMSCE CSE Reality: MSRIT ISE. Just hope that I atleast get CSE there."
Unexpected Outcomes
Let's also hear from a student with a rank of 214, who faced unexpected results:
"My rank: 214 Score:142 Expected college: RVCE Computer Science Engineering Allotted College: RVCE Electronics Communication" In mock round I was getting ISE at NIE Mysore but then I deleted that preference so I didnt get that college. My rank is 4172. GM But Im good as I dont have to pay 50k and I will be eligible for the 2nd round and then I will easily get SJCE ISE.."
These personal stories underscore the unpredictabilities and complexities of the COMEDK process. Each experience is unique and reaffirms the importance of flexibility and positive outlook for students navigating this process.
