My Favorite High School Subjects and Experiences

High school was a formative time in my life, both academically and personally. Throughout my educational journey, I had the opportunity to explore various subjects that left a lasting impression. From biology to art history, each class contributed to my broader understanding of the world and helped shape my interests and aspirations.

Favorite Subjects in High School

Among the various subjects I enjoyed, biology, English, English, history, Spanish, and art history stood out. Each of these subjects had its unique appeal, and they played a significant role in broadening my knowledge and enhancing my skills.

Biology

Biology was one of my most memorable subjects, and it held a special place in my heart. I was fascinated by the intricate workings of the human body and the vast array of living organisms. In my biology class, I almost considered science to be one of my best subjects. However, there was one incident that changed my perspective on the subject permanently.

My biology teacher took an interesting approach when covering the topic of evolution. Instead of discussing it openly, she decided to announce that the subject of evolution offended her Christian beliefs. This decision was shocking, and I felt it was unjustified. I decided to confront her, explaining that the school was a public school, not a private Christian or Catholic institution. Despite refusing to teach the chapter herself, she encouraged me to read it independently. However, I didn't take her advice, and I later regretted it. I wish I had delved deeper into the topic before college, where the knowledge would have been even more relevant.

English Classes

The English classes I took were among my most enjoyable. Being a bookworm who loves to read only enhanced this experience. I was fortunate to have two fantastic teachers who made the subject come alive. The enjoyment of reading books made the classes more enriching and fulfilling. The ability to delve into literature and analyze the themes, characters, and symbolism provided a newfound appreciation for language and storytelling.

History

My passion for history began in sixth grade, and it only grew stronger as I progressed through high school. In history class, I found it easy to engage with the material, as every lesson seemed interesting and thought-provoking. The subject matter not only expanded my understanding of past events but also helped me develop critical thinking skills and a lifelong appreciation for the importance of learning from history.

Spanish

My love for Spanish came as a result of my father's advice. Born and raised in Southern California, my father recognized that Spanish would be more useful than learning French. While French might have been a stringent language to learn, Spanish's prevalence in my environment made it the more practical choice. To my delight, I quickly fell in love with the language and its rich cultural heritage. I am a huge fan of Latin pop music and have admiration for artists such as Enrique Iglesias, Julio Iglesias, Pitbull, and Ricky Martin.

Art History

While I enjoyed the other subjects, my experiences in art history were a bit different. I found it challenging to focus due to the stress of taking six classes and being involved in the Academic Decathlon during my sophomore year. Visiting art museums and engaging in photography are some of my passions, but I occasionally struggled to keep up with the demands of the class. Despite falling asleep in class, I remain passionate about art and history.

In conclusion, high school was a journey filled with memorable subjects and experiences.
