Mastering Biology for NEET: A Personal Journey and Valuable Insights
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a crucial exam for medical students in India. Passing NEET with excellent scores requires a meticulous and methodical approach to studying. In this article, I will share my personal experience and some valuable tips on how to study biology for the NEET exam, particularly based on my journey in preparing for the 2021 exam.
Understanding Biology through GEETENDRA SIR’s Videos
Back in 2020, my knowledge of biology was quite limited. I struggled to understand even a single line of NCERT textbooks, and watching videos on YouTube did not help much. I was frustrated and felt that the concepts were too complex. However, everything changed when I discovered GEETENDRA SIR’s videos on YouTube. I started watching these lectures randomly, and to my surprise, I started understanding biology remarkably well. GEETENDRA SIR’s clear and concise explanations made the subject much more accessible and understandable.
I took a subscription to BIOMENTORS in November 2020 and began my preparation in a more disciplined manner. My strategy was:
Watch Lectures: The first and foremost step was to watch the lectures provided by GEETENDRA SIR. These lectures covered the entire NCERT syllabus comprehensively and explained each concept with clarity. NCERT Reading: Immediately after watching the lectures, I would read the relevant sections of the NCERT textbooks. This step helped me to solidify the concepts and bring the two together. Solve DPPs: After reading NCERT, I would solve the Direct Problem Practice (DPP) sheets to test my understanding and identify areas that needed more attention. Weekly Tests: These tests were crucial for identifying my weak areas and assessing my overall preparation. Revision: I would revise my notes, DPPs, and NCERT from a fresh perspective, making quick revision notes that I could refer back to in the final stages of preparation. Understand NCERT: It is crucial to understand NCERT fully. GEETENDRA SIR’s videos helped me to understand each line of NCERT very well, which made reading and comprehending the NCERT books a much more straightforward process.First Attempt and Lessons Learned
My first attempt at NEET 2020 was not as successful as I had hoped. I tried a chapter-by-chapter approach, but without fully understanding or memorizing the content, I managed to finish a chapter in half an hour, leaving out Unit 1 and 2 of the 11th-grade biology textbook as they seemed too tough. As a result, I ended up poorly in the NEET 2020 biology section with a score of 220.
Second Attempt with Focus on NCERT
After my first attempt, I realized that I needed a more focused approach. For the 2021 attempt, I decided to read the NCERT books line by line and solve NCERT-based Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). I was confident that with this method, I would get a perfect score. Unfortunately, I fell short again and scored only 290 in the NEET 2021 biology section, particularly struggling with biotechnology.
Instead of giving up, I decided to apply my lessons learned and start preparing for the 2022 exam. I focused on following the strict NCERT-based lectures by another resource, TARUN SIR. I read the NCERT books 10 times and revised my notes and DPPs meticulously before the exam. As a result, I scored 340 in the NEET 2022 biology section.
Conclusion and Final Tips
From my personal experience, it is clear that understanding the NCERT books thoroughly, supplemented by clear and comprehensive lectures, is essential for excelling in the NEET exam. I recommend the following tips:
Start with concise and clear lectures, using resources like GEETENDRA SIR’s or TARUN SIR’s videos. Read the NCERT books line by line and solve MCQs based on NCERT. Practice solving DPPs and take regular weekly tests. Make quick revision notes to reinforce your learning. Ensure you fully understand each concept in NCERT, as this will significantly aid in recalling answers during the exam.By following these steps and maintaining dedication and discipline, you can significantly improve your chances of success in the NEET exam.
