The Future of Royal Marines Careers
After completing the grueling 32-week Commando Training, new recruits are 'knighted' with a green beret. You are then drafted to whichever part of the Corps needs your services. Generally, you will serve a period in one unit before being drafted elsewhere. In over a decade of service, I served in various units, including 43, 45, 40, and 42, with shorter stints on courses and staff roles. While the new future commando concept may change how units are structured, the likelihood of spending a lengthy career in one unit remains slim.
