Experiencing the Girls' Hostels at Jamia Millia University: A Review of Amenities and Fees

I don't have information on other hostels because each one is unique in its own way. However, during my graduation, I resided in the Begum Hazrat Mahal hostel, and I can confidently say it surpasses the majority of girls' hostels in Jamia Millia University.

The situation in the girls' hostels at Jamia Millia University is better than most private hostels and PGs (private accommodation for students). Each room is shared by three students, and the amenities provided per student include a bed, a study table, a chair, and a cupboard.

Facilities in the Hostel

The washrooms are shared, with four blocks per floor, each containing four stalls, one attendant, and two washing areas. Each wash area has two semi-automatic washing machines. Students can have their clothes washed for a fee, as outlined on the notice board in the hostel.

The hostel offers three cold water coolers on each floor during summers, and normally supply in winters. Additionally, the facility provides a mess for students that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. A free milk packet is included for two people if they share it. The Sunday night dinner and any special holiday dinner are especially generous in terms of variety and quality.

There is a well-maintained garden in the center of the hostel, serving as the venue for various events and activities. The hostel also features a gym and a library, which is exclusively for accessing the study facility. The rooms are spacious and well-kept if maintained properly. Each floor is attended by a maid who comes daily to clean the room and the washrooms are also cleaned separately on each floor.

Near the entrance, there is a canteen that offers a wide range of snacks, while a parlour is available but not frequently used, except during freshers' and farewell parties.

Costs and Payment Process

The fee structure is quite reasonable, and paying it requires queuing at the bank as there is no online payment system available. The fee for a session of six months is Rs. 15,000, which includes Rs. 3,000 for hostel fees and Rs. 12,000 for mess fees. It is suggested that you consider boarding as it offers excellent value for money and comes with most facilities included.

Conclusion

Overall, the experience of staying in the girls' hostels at Jamia Millia University is a good one. If you're looking for a reasonably priced accommodation with a good range of facilities, it is definitely worth considering.
