Challenging the Homeschooling Decision: My Journey to Public School
As a child who has been homeschooled by my mother, I often found myself facing challenges when expressing my desire to attend public school. My mother's stringent views and even physical responses have made the conversation particularly difficult. However, I believe that public school offers an environment that can positively impact my social development, education, and overall well-being.

When we talk about 'IRL friends,' we're referring to real-life friendships made outside of the digital realm. These relationships provide valuable social experiences and are essential for personal growth and development. Many people, especially teenagers, lack the necessary social skills and real-life friendships due to a lack of exposure to diverse social settings. This is why it's important to seek out IRL friendships as a means of building a robust support network.
Social Opportunities are Essential for Personal Growth
One of the most critical aspects of a child's development is the ability to choose a spouse or partner. Social experiences play a crucial role in this process, as they help individuals understand themselves better and develop the skills needed for forming healthy relationships. Additionally, strong friendships are a fundamental part of life. Humans are social beings, and isolation is not favorable for our mental and emotional well-being. Building these relationships independently is a vital step towards becoming a well-rounded individual.
The Benefits of Public School
When considering my future, I believe that my mother has made an excellent choice in keeping me homeschooled. However, there are several scenarios and timelines to consider. While my childhood is indeed brief, once I turn 18, I will be an adult for the rest of my life. The period of 18 to 60 years represents approximately 40% of my life. During this time, I will have ample opportunities to socialize and form genuine relationships.
I have stated this to reassure you that I am not missing out on anything meaningful. People, places, and experiences do not move away; they remain constant. My fear is that if I were to attend public school, I would miss out on invaluable opportunities for personal growth and self-discovery. The environment at public school may not provide the genuine and authentic friendships that clubs and extracurricular activities do. In public school, the focus may be more on popularity than on learning, which can be detrimental to my development.
Why Clubs and Extracurricular Activities?
Instead of attending public school, I believe that joining clubs and participating in extracurricular activities would be a better way to find genuine friendships. These activities allow me to meet like-minded individuals who share my interests and values. Additionally, they provide a supportive environment where I can build meaningful relationships and develop skills that are essential for life. By focusing on these activities, I can ensure that I am surrounded by real friends who enjoy my genuine personality and who are genuinely interested in my personal growth.
Lastly, I want to emphasize the importance of standing up for oneself and staying true to one's values. No matter where you go or what decisions you make, do not let anyone bully you. It's essential to be well-prepared and confident, as you will face challenges and pressure from others. By prioritizing your education, growing up, and building a successful career, the fun and friendships will still be there when you become an adult.
