CBSE Class 12 Exam Results: Pass Percentage and Regional Highlights in 2019

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) exam results for Class 12 in 2019 showcased a notable outcome. Approximately 83.4% of students who appeared for the exams passed, marking a slight improvement from the 83.01% pass percentage in 2018.

Exam Participation and Pass Rate

In 2019, a total of 2.5 million (2.5 crore) students registered for the CBSE Class 12 examinations, with around 83.4% of these students passing. The overall pass rate indicated a significant achievement, reflecting the rigorous education provided by the CBSE. This year, however, the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic necessitated a change in the evaluation methodology.

The CBSE opted to evaluate students based on predefined criteria rather than through traditional exam results. Consequently, there will be no pass percentage or number of students passing the exam for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Achievements Across Gender and Region

Diverse groups demonstrated remarkable performance in 2019. Notably, girls and transgender students excelled, outperforming their male counterparts. A staggering 88.70% of girls passed the exams, while 83.3% of transgender students cleared the exams, and only 79.4% of boys passed. This gender disparity reflected a continued focus on educational parity within the CBSE system.

The best performing region in terms of pass percentage was Thiruvananthapuram, with a remarkable 98.2% pass rate. The region of Chennai came second, with a pass rate of 92.93%, while Delhi, often compared for its educational standards, stood at a commendable 91.87%.

Comparison to Previous Year

When compared to the 2018 results, the pass percentage for the Class 12 CBSE exams in 2019 saw a marginal increase. In 2018, the overall pass rate was 83.01%, whereas in 2019, this number jumped to 83.4%. Despite the slight improvement, the focus remains on continuous educational enhancement and support for all students.

Despite the challenges faced due to the pandemic, the CBSE has demonstrated resilience in maintaining and improving educational standards. The overall achievements in 2019 reflect the ongoing efforts to provide a quality education to students across the country.
