BITSAT Extra Questions: Strategy and Tips for Effective Time Management
The BITSAT (Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test) is a highly competitive exam designed to evaluate students for admission to various engineering and science courses at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) campuses across India. One common question from aspirants is whether they can attempt extra questions without completing all the mandatory questions. Let's explore this and other strategies to optimize your time during this exam.
Can You Attempt Extra Questions Without Completing All Mandatory Questions?
Yes, candidates are allowed to attempt extra questions in the BITSAT even if they have not completed all the mandatory questions. However, it's crucial to manage your time effectively to maximize your score.
The exam consists of a total of 150 questions, and candidates have the option to answer additional questions beyond the initial set. It's important to note that the extra questions are typically answered in the order they appear. Therefore, while you can attempt extra questions, it's advisable to complete all the required questions first for a better chance of scoring well.
Here are some key points to consider:
Time Management: Allocate time to each section and question to ensure you finish all mandatory questions within the time limit. Strategic Guessing: If you find yourself with some time left, you can make smart guesses on the remaining questions. Even if you get them wrong, the marking scheme allows for partial credits, which can be beneficial. Decision Making: If you have solved most questions but are still left with some time, carefully decide whether to attempt the bonus questions or not based on the number of unattempted questions.According to many test survivors, attempting 140-145 questions with around 85% accuracy is a high chance of securing a decent branch at BITS Pilani. Therefore, completing the mandatory questions first is highly recommended for better score optimization.
Personal Experience and Advice
One candidate shares a personal experience:
"First of all, the answer to your question is no. We cannot attempt the extra questions more precisely bonus questions without completing the other questions - i.e., the first 150 questions. So, the strategy is to just go through the question paper one time and try to attempt all the questions and then unlock the bonus questions. When you attempt the paper in one go, there will be some questions you are not able to answer. For these questions, you have to make instantaneous decisions whether to attempt the bonus questions or not. If the number of unattempted questions is large, it is advised not to go for the bonus questions as you have to make many guesses in order to unlock them."
The candidate further adds,
"In my case, I could solve 129 questions including some estimates and logical guesses. I was left with around 50 minutes. Then I just glanced over the questions for a while and decided to attempt the remaining 21 questions by smart guessing. After marking all these in 10 minutes, I had 40 minutes left. I unlocked the bonus questions and attempted all of them. At last, I had attempted all the questions and was left out with 26 minutes. I submitted the question paper, and the score flashed upon my screen. I got 127 correct and remaining incorrect. Finally, the score was 346. I had no reactions on the score because I thought that I would get a decent seat in some IIT. On 11th June, the JEE Advanced results were declared, and they were totally unexpected."
The candidate chose to go for BITS over NITs due to its fame and good ranking. The advice strongly emphasizes the importance of taking no exam lightly, as it can decide one's future.
Conclusion
While you can attempt extra questions in the BITSAT, it is highly recommended to manage your time effectively and complete the mandatory questions first. Smart guessing can be used for remaining questions if time permits but with caution. Following these strategies can significantly improve your chances of securing a good score at Birla Institute of Technology and Science.
