Am I Still on Quora? The Truth Behind My Activity and Motivations
It's no secret that many individuals on the internet are often portrayed as having elaborate online personas. In this case, I am one of them. Many might ask, 'Do you still answer questions on Quora?' The truth is, my online presence is multifaceted and can sometimes appear to be quite complex.
Quitting Quora?
Some might believe that I have quit answering questions on Quora. However, that's a misconception. I did not answer the specific question you're reading and this was not my response.
Real Reasons Behind Reduced Activity
Do I still answer questions on Quora? Yes, I do, but there are several reasons why my activity might appear less frequent. To manage my time effectively, I juggle multiple identities and several responsibilities, including those that are not digital in nature. Here are the key factors that influence my Quora activity:
Having a Family
I have a wife and two children, which takes up a significant portion of my time. Between household responsibilities and parenting, I am invariably tired by the time I return home from work. This leaves me limited time for online engagements.
Challenging Work Schedule
My real job involves physical labor, as I dig holes all day. This demanding work leaves me exhausted, making it difficult to allocate time for online activities. I often have to find ways to sneak in time or find excuses to leave work briefly.
Multiple Identities
I also maintain several online identities, which adds to the need for discretion. I am a covert narcissist, and keeping my online presence separate from my personal life is something I value. This requires a significant amount of time and energy to manage.
Selective Engagement
While I do answer questions, it's not a regular affair. I sometimes go for days without checking Quora. I prefer to tackle questions that spark interesting conversations or are thought-provoking rather than ones that can be easily answered.
When I do engage, I tend to focus on questions that are relevant to my interests or expertise, rather than those that I'm requested to answer. I often decide to answer spontaneously when I have the opportunity and feel motivated to contribute.
However, the sheer number of questions I receive can be overwhelming. On average, I receive between 100 to 500 questions per week, and it's simply not possible to answer them all. My primary work is done during my office hours, and the rest of my time is spent taking care of my family.
Prioritizing Personal Life
At home, my primary focus is on my husband and children. Unless he is working, I rarely engage in Quora or other online activities. Instead, I prefer spending time with my family, engaged in hobbies such as gaming or reading.
For me, the motivation to answer questions is tied to the quality of the question. I believe in sparking meaningful conversations, rather than simply providing quick answers. Sometimes, I don't find good questions worth responding to, making it less rewarding for me.
While it may seem like I answer fewer questions than before, the reality is that I’m focused on maintaining a balanced life, balancing my digital and offline responsibilities.
