Adulthood with a Childish Sparkle: Engaging in Innocent Acts
Isn't it delightful to embrace the innocence and joy of childhood in our adult years? Many of us, despite our years and responsibilities, tangle in the innocence and whimsy of our early days. Here, we explore some childlike activities that can bring a drop of the magic back to our lives and help us relieve stress.
Loves for Leisure
Coloring, for one, is a timeless and relaxing pastime. I've always been an admirer of the tranquility that comes with picking up a crayon or marker. For years, people ridiculed me for enjoying this simple yet fulfilling activity, but I never let it shake my love for it. Now that people with academic credentials have highlighted its benefits, nobody questions my passion anymore; they just ask why we aren't all doing it! Among the many benefits, it's an exceptional way to relieve stress and negative feelings. As a psychologist might put it, it provides a therapeutic avenue to express emotions.
Dress Whimsically
When it comes to fashion, whimsy is my go-to. I make intricate ponytail fasteners that look like mini-hats, complete with sparkles and other adornments. I adore shiny, dazzling things and often wear flavored lip gloss and peel-off nail polish, much like the shimmery mica powder I use to create my own nail polish colors. Making my own nail polish is a fun and safe DIY project that adds a personal touch to my style.
Watch Sesame Street Re-runs
One of my guilty pleasures is watching re-runs of Sesame Street, particularly the old episodes from the time when Gordon had hair and Mr. Hooper was alive. These classic shows, including Mr. Rogers' Programming and the Electric Company with Rita Moreno, are a source of joy and nostalgia. I often find myself immersed in these timeless episodes, which bring a sense of comfort and childlike wonder back into my life. Sometimes, I can't help but exclaim, "HEY YOU GUYS!!!!!", channeling my inner child.
Roller Skating and Fitness Fun
Roller skating takes me back to my childhood and is a fantastic way to stay fit and have fun. Unlike sit-ups, roller skating is incredibly engaging and a lot more fun. Sometimes, I even dream of getting a big wheel, like the one from my childhood, to ride around and enjoy the fitness benefits and whimsical joy that it brings. Adults often yearn for a break from their daily responsibilities; indulging in such activities can be a refreshing change.
Simple Childlike Acts
Other childlike acts that adults often indulge in include making requests for toys with Happy Meals, being competitive in any situation, drawing on car windows, or playing with hair. For instance, some adults still go up stairs in two or three steps at a time. Holding a stick and pretending it's a sword can also bring back a sense of adventure. Twisting your tummy to make faces near the belly-button can be a fun distraction. Lying on the floor and imagining the ceiling to be the floor can be a whimsical way to detach from reality for a moment. These simple acts remind us of the joy and wonder we experienced in our childhood.
Invigorating Childlike Activities
Childlike activities not only bring us back to our childhood but also offer stress relief and a sense of joy. Playing games, making something new, going on adventures, reading a book, or listening to music can help take your mind off of things and uplift your mood. These activities are not earth-shattering but are incredibly effective in providing a much-needed break from the responsibilities of adulthood. So, the next time you feel overwhelmed, indulge in a little childlike fun, and find yourself rejuvenated.
Embrace Your Inner Child
Embracing your inner child can be incredibly liberating and beneficial. It revitalizes joy, reduces stress, and provides a sense of playfulness. Whether it's coloring, roller skating, or making your own nail polish, these activities can bring a touch of magic back to your life. So, the next time you feel the urge to watch Sesame Street reruns or play with hair, don't be hesitant to indulge. Your inner child will thank you for it.
