AFMC 2019 MBBS Admission Interview Experience: A Walkthrough

AFMC 2019 MBBS Admission Interview Experience: A Walkthrough

My interview at AFMC (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) 2019 MBBS admission process was an interesting and detailed experience that required strategic preparation and clear communication. This article will provide a comprehensive guide to what I went through, offering valuable insights and tips for aspiring medical students seeking to join AFMC.

Pre-Interview Process

The pre-interview process began with an early morning wakeup call from Bangalore to Pune, a journey that involved a strenuous 5am departure from home. After checking into a hotel, we rushed to AFMC by 8am. The day proceeded with several steps, including form-filling, blood and urine sample collection, and PAT (Physical Activities Test) and TOELR (Technical Part of Elimination Laboratory Research).

Despite the long day, lunch was not provided on-site. Fortunately, there is a Rahim's canteen available for those looking for food after the interview. The process took until 3pm, leaving no time for a meal. It was not until the end of the day that I could rest in the hotel, and I had only a glimpse at lunch during that short break.

Pre-Interview Check

Before entering the main interview room, a pre-interview check was conducted by a Brigadier-level officer. This short interview was helpful in breaking the ice and setting the stage for my main interview. It was here that I had a conversation with a senior airmen who was also from Karnataka. This was a fortunate coincidence as I could communicate in Kannada, which gave me a head start. He asked about my NEET score and background. I mentioned how my father is in CAPF, which added points in the interview.

Main Interview

After the pre-interview, I entered the main interview room, where a panel of seven members, including the Dean, conducted the interview. The interview started with the Dean asking for self-introduction. However, when I was asked about the full form of 'S,' I was caught off-guard because there wasn't any specific name associated with the initials. This led to a few back-and-forth exchanges, but I maintained my composure and continued with my introduction, mentioning my background and experiences in Kendriya Vidyalaya, as influenced by my military lifestyle.

The Question and Answer Session

I was then asked by various interviewers about my experiences in different campuses and which one I liked the most. I highlighted the importance of greenery and climate conditions. When asked about my strength, I emphasized on my work ethic and consistency, which were key aspects of my personal qualities.

One of the interviewers asked about my priorities, specifically if I would choose AFMC over a BMR (Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute). I responded that I would opt for AFMC, which aligned with my initial answer during the pre-interview. The interview concluded with a swifter exit, with the Dean offering me a chocolate, a crucial detail that I will elucidate later.

The Psychological Element

After the main interview, there was an interesting psychological element at play when receiving the chocolate. According to my experience, AFMC is not merely offering chocolates for happiness. Instead, it is a subtle way to gauge how candidates will approach future situations and opportunities. Taking too few chocolates can leave a bad impression, while taking too many can also create negative perceptions about the candidate's regard for others.

My response was to take just one chocolate, which I considered the optimal choice. Although I mentioned that my English was quite poor, I managed to conduct the interview in Hindi, showing my capabilities in other languages.

TOELR and Final Impressions

Regarding the TOELR, I felt that my performance was poor, as I just marked BBBBBB. This affected my BM (Battery Measure) score quite significantly. Despite this, I ultimately passed with a BM of 48. At this stage, after all the scrutiny and interviews, everyone at AFMC is now considered equally eligible for admission.

In conclusion, the AFMC 2019 MBBS admission process was a challenging yet enriching experience. It highlighted the importance of preparation, clear communication, and psychological acumen. I hope this article can provide aspiring candidates with valuable insights and tips to excel in their medical interviews at AFMC.
